- Taking ownership of a local pub as a community
This case study looks at 2 communities that took ownership of their local pub:
- Barrhill Development Trust purchased the village pub, The Trout Inn, with the intention of retaining an important amenity. They wanted to develop it for the benefit of the local community and economy.
- The Swan in Banton, which is one of Scotland’s first community-owned pubs. When the building was threatened with demolition in 2016, the community quickly started organising to save it.
Read about their experiences, challenges and successes, as well as their ideas for future community development.
