Around Scotland, people are realising the benefit of community landownership. Owning land and buildings puts communities in control of their future.
A community buyout is when a community buys land, buildings or other assets in the place where they live. It’s a process that can unleash energy in a community and which ensures that any profits stay in the local area. It allows the community to decide what they want to see happen locally. In both rural and urban areas, community landowners have been able to reverse years of decline.
We support emerging and existing communities landowners.
We provide guidance, resources, and connections to help communities successfully navigate the road to community landownership. For established community landowners, we provide ongoing advice and support, as well as networking and peer-to-peer learning opportunities.
You can get in touch with us at any point in your community ownership journey.

We can provide flexible support for emerging community landowners. This can take many forms, depending on your needs.
We can:
- Answer your questions on key aspects of community landownership, including sustainability and long-term planning
- Connect you with other community landowners in our network who have faced similar challenges, fostering shared learning and peer support.
- Signpost to other organisations that offer specialist support, funding, or legal advice.
- Help you navigate questions about landownership, negotiated sales from private landowners, and Community Right to Buy.

Taking ownership of land is just the beginning. We provide on-going support to community landowners through study visits and regional networking events, training sessions, online resources such as webinars, case studies and toolkits. We can also provide one-to-one support for communities who are navigating challenging circumstances.
