Why Become a Member?
Joining Community Land Scotland connects you to a national network of communities and gives you the support, knowledge and collective voice needed to succeed.
As a member, you will:
- Be part of a collective voice advocating for community ownership across Scotland
- Shape our work and vote at our Annual General Meeting
- Access support during the buyout process and beyond
- Share knowledge and experience with other communities
- Stay informed with news, updates and opportunities
You’ll also receive discounted rates for Community Land Scotland events and opportunities to connect with other communities.
Membership Options
Membership with Community Land Scotland is open to community groups across Scotland who either already own land or buildings, or are working towards community ownership.
We offer two types of membership, depending on your organisation’s stage:
Full Membership
For formally constituted (e.g. Company Limited by Guarantee or SCIO) community organisations that:
- Represent a defined geographical community
- Have open membership to people living in that area
- Ensure local control of their Board or Committee
- Own or are working towards owning land and/or buildings
Aspiring Membership
For groups at an earlier stage who are working towards community ownership.
Aspiring membership is open to non-constituted organisations and is reviewed after one year. Aspiring Members are not eligible to vote.

Membership Fees
Membership operates on a three-year cycle. A fee of £50.00 covers three years for current community landowners. There is no fee for Aspiring Members or for Full Members who have not yet acquired land or buildings.
How to join
If your organisation would like to become a member you can apply online or download an application form.
Once we receive your application, we will check to make sure that your organisation meets our eligibility criteria. In some cases, we may request to see your governance so that we can do our checks. Once we have confirmed you are eligible to join, your application will be circulated to our Board for approval. This process usually takes about a week.
Once you are confirmed, we will welcome you to the Membership!
