What Next for Scotland? is an ambitious 18-month project that asks what the future holds for communities across the land at this pivotal moment.
Funded by Creative Scotland through the Culture Collective, it builds on the momentum of Linn an Fhearainn / 100 Years of Community Ownership.
The programme uses creativity to make land, power and place feel accessible, human and urgent. It brings people together across rural and urban Scotland. It creates space for communities to think about how their relationship to land can shape what comes next, at a time of climate pressure, inequality and political uncertainty.
Through a bold mix of community-led creative projects, storytelling and screen work, the programme will spark new public conversations. It will also offer practical inspiration, not just “awareness”. You can expect art and engagement rooted in real communities. There will be a new podcast series exploring land issues through compelling themes. New storytelling will be created in Gaelic, Scots and English. A feature documentary will celebrate women’s leadership in community ownership. A small touring land-justice film festival will take these ideas on the road.
Alongside these cultural outputs, the programme will leave a lasting legacy. It will produce shareable learning and replicable approaches. Other communities will be able to use these to imagine, organise and act.
The project is funded with the support of Creative Scotland’s Culture Collective Fund.
The Culture Collective Fund is a Scottish Government initiative which supports a network of creative practitioners, organisations and communities, working together to create a positive difference locally and nationally.
