- Community Landowners and the Climate Emergency
There is a global climate emergency. In response, Scotland has committed to becoming carbon-neutral by 2045. Community owners are contributing towards this goal.
Through this research, we have carried out a rapid but robust analysis of how community owners – those communities that own land, buildings and/or other
built assets – are addressing the climate emergency and generating local community and wider public benefits.
We hope to have provided a more systematic basis for understanding how the sector is helping Scotland to meet its climate goals and targets. We also hope to have progressed understanding of the distinctive contribution that community owners are making to climate action and the delivery of a just transition to a net zero
society. Finally, we have sought to inform consideration of the further contributions that community owners could make and of how those contributions might be enabled.
