Community Land Scotland

2023 Annual Conference

Community Ownership and Land Reform:

Marking the centenary, shaping the future

This year’s Community Land Scotland conference Community Ownership and Land Reform: Marking the centenary, shaping the future took place on 2 and 3 June at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.

2023 marks 100 years since the first transfer of land into community hands was completed. In 2023, we will also see the next Land Reform Bill introduced in Scottish Parliament. For our conference, we drew upon a hundred years of community ownership and imagine a brighter future with sustained and creative land reform in Scotland.

The programme included a challenge to delegates to imagine the bold changes needed in land reform, presentations on community-led biodiversity, and conversations on repopulation through housing and other approaches. Delegates took part in workshops on engaging young people in community ownership, supporting the Gaelic language, and staying engaged with the Land Reform Bill from the consultation process through to its introduction.
