Case Study: Bonnymuir Green Community Trust

A modest half-acre of derelict land in Aberdeen will soon be teeming with wildflowers, wildlife and local people. The Bonnymuir Green Community Trust is working to turn an old bowling green into a growing area for fruit and vegetables, and beehives. The disused building will house a new café and there’ll be rooms available for local groups to use. It’s a great example of community ownership regenerating an urban plot for community use.

The Bonnymuir Green Community Trust is comprised of residents of Midstocket, Aberdeen. It started life in 2015 as a group of residents interested in bringing the old bowling green into community ownership to ensure the long term use of the site for community benefit. Through the Trust, the residents became one of the first urban communities to use the community ownership mechanism that was built into the Land Reform (Scotland) Act in 2016.
