- DAY1 Ltd – Inverness
DAY1 is a charity based in Inverness that helps young people who are struggling to find their way.
They work with teenagers who might not be doing well in school or who need extra support to move into work, training, or further education. DAY1 gives them guidance, builds their confidence, and helps them learn practical skills for the real world.
A big part of what makes DAY1 different is how they do this. They don’t just run programmes — they also run a business, including Inverness Kart Raceway. This gives young people the chance to learn hands-on skills in a real working environment, while also bringing in money to fund the charity’s work.
Over the years, DAY1 has helped hundreds of young people move on to positive futures.
DAY1 is now involved in something much bigger that could benefit the whole Inverness community.
There is an opportunity for land within the Inverness Masterplan area to be gifted by a developer.
If planning permission is approved for housing on part of the site:
• DAY1 would receive a small piece of the land to build a Centre of Learning
• This would help them expand their apprenticeship and training programmes for local young people
At the same time:
• The developer plans to gift the rest of the land — around 100 acres — to the wider community
Because DAY1 already has a relationship with the developer, they are in a strong position to:
• Bring this opportunity to the community
• Help people understand what it could mean
• Support the idea of the land being owned by the community
In simple terms, DAY1 wants to help make sure this land doesn’t just get lost to private interests — but instead stays for the benefit of local people in the long term.
If it all goes ahead, this could lead to:
• Better training and opportunities for young people
• A large piece of land owned by the community
• Long-term benefits for Inverness as a whole
DAY1’s aim is to support the community, share knowledge, and help build a plan so that the land can be owned and used by local people for generations to come.
