Arran Development Trust

c/o The Visitor Information Centre The Pier Brodick Isle of Arran, North Ayrshire KA27 8AU

The Arran Development Trust has over 400 members, which roughly equates to 10% of the resident population (4500). It is free to join, no restrictions. All trustees are voluntary and elected each year at the AGM, representing all main sectors of the island. The ADT has worked collaboratively with North Ayrshire Council and designed a local lettings and allocation procedure specifically for Arran which awards priority points to those already living and working on the island.

The main objectives of the Arran Development Trust is to solve the lack of affordable homes on the island of Arran. The first two sites will give a choice of affordable rental homes and affordable self-build plots to purchase. Arran requires a minimum of 200 affordable units. The ADT was set up by the local community in order to provide these homes. The affordable rents will be within the Local Housing Allowance level and the serviced self-build plots will carry a Rural Housing Burden on the Title Deeds ensuring these are always protected in perpetuity as principle residences and never used as holiday or second homes.
