Easter Breich Wood Community Group: Fungi Foray and Art Workshop

Event at a glance:

Location: West Lothian
Date: 26 October 2025
Number of Staff & Volunteers: 7
Number of Attendees: 15
First-time participant? No
Bursary support received: Yes

What they said:

Running an event as part of a wider festival definitely added to the day – and helped with the organisation. The event attracted new people, from further afield than our usual events and the combination of fungi foray and art was a fun way to get people really looking at the woodland. Unfortunately the weather was poor, so we had a lot of ‘no-shows’, but despite that people really enjoyed the day and made some great art.

Outcomes and Community Feedback:

New people finding out about the woodland, and we’re hoping to run both events again next year – but probably as separate events.

Challenges:

Running it in late autumn meant people got quite cold – especially for the art. Would run again but at different time of year. Organising it as a free event on Eventbrite meant we were really uncertain about how many would attend. which made it difficult to plan things like car parking.
