The Future Sustainability of North Highlands Communities #1: Depopulation

Caithness and Sutherland are forecast to suffer a drop in population of 9.3 percent and 7.4 percent respectively over the next 10 years. This will have a serious impact on the future sustainability of our communities, our services and our culture. Communities across Scotland are working to address depopulation and the loss of young people from their areas in various ways. These include the development of affordable housing, business space, tourism projects and local services such as shops, pubs and schools.

Community Land Scotland hosted an event to hear from communities across Scotland about their work in reversing population decline, together with local agency and support organisations who can help communities with this work. The event is comprise of short presentations followed by a panel discussion and open Q&A for members of the public.
