The Stornoway Trust are recruiting a Deputy Chief Executive
Job Vacancy: Deputy Chief Executive
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000
Location: Isle of Lewis
The Stornoway Trust has recently commenced the process of finding a Deputy Chief Executive Officer who will help build resilience and shared knowledge through servicing the ongoing day to day needs of one of Scotland’s largest community owned estates.
The Trust on the Northeast of the island of Lewis is Scotland’s oldest community land trust, dating to 1923. The stewardship of the 69,000-acre estate was gifted to the community by Lord Leverhulme and it is now home to 11,000 people and comprises 40 crofting townships with 1,300 crofts, 200 allotments, farmland and the Lews Castle Grounds in Stornoway.
To free up the Factor to lead the strategic growth of the Trust, as activity around renewable energy expands, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer will assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the crofting estate and the Lews Castle grounds. To this end the Trust is seeking an individual with experience of land management, crofting, woodland management and ideally renewables. A knowledge of Gaelic and island culture is considered desirable as is an MRICS Chartered Surveyor qualification.
Iain MacIver, Factor of the Stornoway Trust said “This is a great prospect for someone with a few years’ experience under their belt, ideally in an estate management role, who is seeking an opportunity to work across a wide range of rural land uses in one of the most special places in Scotland.”
He went on “The Trust has been growing in recent years and there are ever more opportunities presenting themselves so it is important that we build capacity within the team to ensure we make the most of them while continuing to work with and support the Stornoway Trust crofters, tenants and partners.”
