Scottish Land Commission Advice for expanding community landownership
28 July 2026
The Scottish Land Commission (SLC) has recently published new advice which sets out practical next steps to expand community ownership in Scotland and help more communities benefit from owning local land and assets. Building on recent community ownership successes across Scotland, the new report recommends increasing Scottish Land Fund support, using multi-year funding, improving post-acquisition help, and making legal, planning and technical advice easier to access. It also calls for stronger coordination through Community Wealth Building plans so community land and buildings deliver lasting public benefit for generations.
The SLC have also recently published the Rural Land Market Insights report, which highlights a welcome fall in investor interest in Scottish land, which may lead to land prices decreasing and making community acquisition easier.
