This paper, by renowned academic, writer and land reformer Alastair McIntosh, gives a fascinating perspective on natural and private capital. It is a welcome contribution to an important contemporary debate.

In October 2023 an additional paper has been added which Alastair presented to a meeting with NatureScot in August 2023. This briefing paper sets out the philosophical basis of the ‘silver standard’ as well as how it could work in practice. It has a close alignment with the ‘Beyond Community Benefit’ paper we published in October 2023 – Beyond community benefit – a new deal for thriving communities – Community Land Scotland.
