Community Land Scotland

Natural Capital Community Partnerships

Building partnerships to deliver community benefits from natural capital.

The Natural Capital Community Partnerships launched at the beginning of 2025 to build partnerships between Scotland’s community, private and public sectors.

Led by Community Land Scotland in partnership with the Scottish Land Commission, the project is helping deliver Scottish Government expectations that communities are involved in decisions and benefit from Scotland’s land.

As investment in land for natural capital developments increases, it is essential to ensure that communities are meaningfully involved, receive a fair share of the benefits, and are not at risk of being marginalised.

The Natural Capital Community Partnerships provides tailored support to a small number of projects, establishing fair and practical examples of projects where landowners, communities, developers, and nature finance developers work together to share in the benefits of natural capital investment.

The project is funded with the support of Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, Foundation Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Forestry and South of Scotland Enterprise.

Other project supporters include the Scottish Land Commission, Cairngorm National Park Authority and Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.

The two advisers led by the project manager cover the entirety of Scotland’s mainland and islands, working hands-on with landowners, investors and communities, building partnerships and creating inclusive project models.

The team hopes to recruit a third adviser at the beginning of 2026 to expand our capacity and reach.
