Sunart Community Company

Creag Ard 5 Longrigg Road Strontian Acharacle PH36 4HY United Kingdom

The Sunart Community Company (formerly Strontian Community Company), established in 2005, was formed to help the local community acquire fishing and recreational areas that were being sold by the government. Since then, the charity has thrived and become one of the many community “development trusts” across the UK, aimed at empowering local communities to take more control over their affairs and shape long-term plans for their futures.

Working in close partnership with the Sunart Community Council, the company manages several key assets in Strontian, located in the picturesque region of West Lochaber. These include amenity lands such as a car park by the local marine jetty, a tourist and craft visitor center, and most recently, 88 hectares of forestland purchased from Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS). Their efforts reflect their commitment to their vision of “Keeping Sunart a great place to live, work and visit!” This blend of land management, tourism, and environmental stewardship helps ensure that the local community thrives socially and economically while preserving the natural beauty and resources of the area for future generations.
