South West Mull and Iona Development

South West Mull and Iona Development is a company limited by guarantee, formed in March 2014, to support the long-term sustainability of this vibrant and resilient community.

In November 2015 we completed the purchase of Tiroran Forest from the Forestry Commission.

After two years as community landowners we are learning all the time about how best to look after this resource for the benefit of local people. Aside from managing the forest commercially, we are starting to develop a number of projects, including woodland crofts and a native broadleaves planting scheme. We are excited by the huge potential of the forest to offer opportunities for the wider community; to provide a sustainable income for the community for future generations, to increase access to land for local people, to enhance biodiversity, landscape quality and forest diversity and to improve recreation facilities. The forest also offers the opportunity to improve economic activity and reverse the trend towards population decline in the area.

South West Mull and Iona Development are involved in a wide range of other projects, including Fèis Mhuile, Sound of Iona Harbours group and the development of the Columba Centre in Fionnphort as a community resource.
