Newcastleton District Community Trust is a community anchor organisation created in 2015 serving a community of 920. Since inception, it has worked with the community developing a strategic plan. The recently acquired 750 acres of land adjacent to the village offers increased opportunity across a number of sectors for development; farming, agriculture, renewables, as well as expanded tourism and leisure opportunities with new cycle and mountain bike routes which increases local employment opportunities and potential to attract inward investment. The installation of unmanned community fuel pumps in 2018 resulted in significant increase in local spending and renewed optimism leading to the development of the current project; upgrading a neglected heritage building to provide a local Enterprise & Learning Centre and a 14 bed bunkhouse. Flooding from Storm Dennis in Feb 2020 hit hard damaging 105 houses, which has had a significant impact on families and residents, as a result there are further plans to support a number of key issues including housing, fuel poverty, food security and mental health.
