Midsteeple Quarter (Dumfries High Street)

C/O Armstrong Watson 51 Rae Street Dumfries DG1 1JD

Midsteeple Quarter is a Community Benefit Society set up and run by the people of Dumfries. Our aim is to help shape a new future for our town centre; one that responds to the needs of our community and is run for their benefit.

Our core principle is that local people have the innovative solutions for our town and that a significant local stake in the future of the town through community ownership and control is the best route towards a sustainable prosperity that is shared fairly amongst everyone.

We are doing this by bringing 8 underused High Street properties under community control and refurbishing these as a contemporary living, working, socialising, learning and enterprising quarter – a new beating heart for a more diverse town centre and a catalyst for a thriving and resilient future Dumfries.
Midsteeple Quarter was founded in 2017, we currently have nearly 600 members. Voting members are individuals or businesses from the DG1 and DG2 postcodes and people from outwith the town can join as non-voting members. Each year the members elect a board to run the Society, the board employs a project team of 4 people supported by additional consultants to deliver the day-to-day business of Midsteeple Quarter.

The vision for Midsteeple Quarter is set out in our ?Blueprint? document which gives an explanation of the vision, its foundations and why what we are doing is so important to the future of the High Street. It also looks at funding, the economic case, project delivery, phasing and the likely impact of our proposals. Our architectural masterplan for the Midsteeple Quarter town district has been adopted as part of the local development plan by our partners Dumfries and Galloway Council and we are working closely with South of Scotland Enterprise, the Scottish Government and numerous other local and national partners to deliver this innovative approach to town centre regeneration.
