Glen Urquhart Rural Community Association (GURCA)

The Glen Urquhart Rural Community Association (GURCA) is a volunteer-run charity that works to improve life in the Glen Urquhart area. It was set up in the 1940s and runs various projects and community spaces.

What GURCA Manages:

  • Blairbeg Park – A playing field used for shinty (a Scottish sport), community events, and the Highland Games.
  • Village Green – A central space for markets, events, and gatherings.
  • Glen Urquhart Public Hall (Blairbeg Hall) – A community hall for meetings, sports, and activities.
  • Loch Ness Hub – A tourism and transport centre, also with public toilets, taken over by GURCA in 2021.

Some of Their Recent Projects:

  • Community Plan – A long-term plan for improving local services, health, business, and the environment.
  • Sports and Wellbeing Hub – A new fitness and treatment centre being built in Drumnadrochit.
  • Possible Bunloit Estate Buyout – Looking into buying part of a large estate to protect nature and support local interests.
  • Public Hall Upgrade – A major renovation planned for the local hall, though funding is still needed.

GURCA works hard to keep the community active, connected, and improving for the future.
