East Lochaber Community Trust

East Lochaber Community Trust was set up in 2016 with a view to buying the 125,000 acres of land associated with the Rio Tinto Alcan smelter near Fort William. This would have been the largest community buyout in Scottish history.

We were unsuccessful in that bid but continue to negotiate with the new owner, GFG Alliance with a view to achieving a community acquisition of a lesser, yet significant and sustainable, area.

The East Lochaber Community Trust is a company limited by guarantee, formed to benefit the community of East Lochaber, which covers the community council areas of Spean Bridge, Roy Bridge and Achnacarry; Inverlochy and Torlundy; Caol; Kilmallie; Fort William; Nether Lochaber, Glencoe & Glen Etive and Kinlochleven.
