Colonsay Community Development Company

With roughly 125 inhabitants and its nearest neighbouring community almost twenty miles distant, Colonsay is one of the most remote communities in Britain.

One of the Community Development Company’s achievements was a community garden created in front of the village hall. The land was secured for a peppercorn rent  and funding was provided by the Woodland Trust and the Beechgrove Garden. The latter featured the garden on TV, as its transformation was nearing completion. This really was a community led project, with the Colonsay Community Garden Group working as an automonous sub-committee of the CCDC.
