Carsphairn Community Woodland

Carsphairn is a small, remote, rural community set in the stunning Galloway Hills and the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere, close to the Galloway Dark Sky Park and the Galloway Park..

We anticipate acquiring 49ha of Muirdrochwood Forest from Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) during 2020, to create woodland facilities which will contribute to much needed regeneration of the community and help to deliver a broad range of economic, social and environmental benefits towards building a more resilient community. Funding for the acquisition will be through The Scottish Land Fund and local fundraising, with a discount from FLS for the social benefits that will be delivered.

Initial planned activities include: a Community Hub for workshops and community events; provision of wood fuel and wood products, and creation of paths around the site, all set in a woodland landscape to be redesigned with more native woodland and open spaces amongst productive forest, all for community benefit.
