DESCRIPTION:Simon Fraser Memorial event\nOpening of the new Memorial to the Crofters of Staffin\nThe Simon Fraser Memorial Series is part of the Linn an Fhearainn / 100 Years of Community Ownership project.\nThe series focuses on the stories of community owners\, the change they created\, and how their legacy might shape the future. It pays tribute to Simon Fraser\, a solicitor and pioneer of land reform in Scotland\, who was instrumental in early community buyouts\, including Eigg\, Knoydart and Gigha\, as well as the Assynt Crofters’ buyout. \nThis is the final Simon Fraser event in the series\, hosted by Urras an Taobh Sear / Staffin Community Trust to celebrate the opening of their new memorial. \nThe series launched in January 2024 with the Simon Fraser Memorial Lecture at Dynamic Earth\, Edinburgh\, and has included events in Gigha\, Glasgow\, Galson\, Eigg and London. \nLatha Mòr air An Taobh Sear\nThis Simon Fraser memorial event is a Community Day in Staffin\, North Skye\, to celebrate the opening of our Crofters’ Memorial at Creag an Fhèilidh. \nCrofters from Bhaltos were the first in Skye to rebel against extortionate rent rises imposed by their landlord. SUMMARY:Staffin Community Trust
DESCRIPTION:Staffin Community Trust intends to carry out a full\, in-person and online consultation with our community in order to ensure local residents\, organisations and businesses can comment and input into what has been achieved through its various projects in the last decade – and what they want to see progressed and delivered in the next five to 10 years. \nGo online for a first look at the consultation and to give feedback from 20 October. In person consultation will place the week commencing 6 November. \n \nThis event is part of Community Land Week\, the festival of community ownership in Scotland. In 2023\, nearly 50 communities from across Scotland will celebrate\, with events ranging from guided walks across community-owned land and mushroom cultivation workshops\, to pumpkin festivals and ceilidhs. \nLearn more.
