Newcastleton District Community Trust is a community anchor organisation created in 2015 it has 300+ members. Since inception, it has worked with the community developing a strategic plan which will see the acquisition and development of 43 hectares of land and other community assets. The plan has been developed after extensive community engagement following the key principles of the National Standards for Community Engagement, (inclusion, support, planning, working together, methods of engagement, communication, inclusion and impact). Our first project, 2017-18 (£450k) to develop community-owned fuel pumps, is now operational and self-sustaining. This success has created a groundswell of momentum-generating community confidence. To prioritise other challenges community views were sought (Aug 18) which produced a new vision; Newcastleton Development Strategy & Action Plan defining NDCTs goals as Acquiring local facilities, through these, create environments where new services, facilities and support can be provided working with the community and public sector agencies to make this happen.
