This is the premier rural housing conference held in Scotland and brings together a broad range of delegates from across sectors and across Scotland to share experiences, knowledge and learn new ideas to deliver rural housing and development in Scotland.
The conference will welcome land activist and author Andy Wightman, who will set out his views on the opportunities for communities and rural housing of radical land reform. Andrew Bradford from Scottish Land & Estates will highlight what estates do already to enable affordable rural housing.
Speakers from three communities (Helmsdale, Knoydart and Ulva Ferry) who have built their own housing will highlight their triumphs and pitfalls, and offer advice to communities who want to take their own action on housing.
The conference features 8 workshops exploring number of important areas: Lateral North, the research and design collective outline their approach to suppporting communities to masterplan their sustainable development; Triodos Bank and Community Shares Scotland will highlight how affordable rural housing can be delivered through new approaches to finance and community shares; HSCHT and the Scottish Government will set out new approached to rural housing development; and Fintry Development Trust and Our Power will highlight community action on fuel poverty and new initiatives to reduce fuel costs.
