Eshiels Community Woodland
Having recently finalised the purchase of this seven-hectare woodland from the Forestry Commission the community are holding a public Open Day / Picnic Event to celebrate. The wood, which is about half a mile from the town, accommodates the multi-use ‘Railway Path’ from Peebles through Cardrona to Innerleithen.
The event will also celebrate the woodland and the extremely rare currant borer moth in its only known location in Scotland; to introduce people, particularly the young, to the wood through guided tours, bushcraft and Forest School activities. Three local artists are setting up an interactive installation based on the woodland environment which they call “What Are We Like” and references among other things climate change and human beings’ place in nature. There will also be acoustic music from local musicians.
A shuttle bus will run from Peebles town centre (School Brae Hub) throughout the afternoon.
