SUMMARY:The GalGael Trust
DESCRIPTION:Yer tea\, a gab an’ a ceilidh. \nThe Highland Land League’s most famous slogan “Is treasa tuath na tighearna” has had a wee renaissance this year. With parcels of Scotland being Bought and Sold (by corporate Gold) for carbon offsets\, the time is now to get together and understand how we harness a power mightier than the Lord. \nBuilding on conversations at last year’s CLW event\, we want to hear more from folk on land rights\, welcome\, indigeneity\, colonialism and Scottish Independence. We have a few speakers lined up\, but we’d love more contributions. If you have something to offer by way of a song\, a poem or a provocation\, get in touch with David at GalGael. \nThere’ll be food\, music and a fire. We might be indoors or outdoors; either way it’ll be cold. Wear yer second best plaid… \n \nThis event is part of Community Land Week\, the festival of community ownership in Scotland. In 2023\, nearly 50 communities from across Scotland will celebrate\, with events ranging from guided walks across community-owned land and mushroom cultivation workshops\, to pumpkin festivals and ceilidhs. \nLearn more.

SUMMARY:Fittie Community Development Trust
DESCRIPTION:When the Community of Fittie acquired a disused Gospel Hall through asset transfer with a grant from the Scottish Land Fund\, it also acquired the plot in which it sits. This is an important year for us as the renovation of the Hall has been completed\, a new floor was laid in May with the assistance from the Aberdeen Common Good Fund. The narrow margin around the Hall which was concreted over is now a community garden. \nThe event ‘Fittie through time’ will show finds made when the concrete was broken up by residents to create the garden\, giving glimpses into the lives of those who lived and worked round and about\, before 1951 when the hall was built. \nDr Orsolya Czere will talk about what archaeology can tell us about life and diet in Aberdeen in past times. There will be a walking tour from Pocra Quay to St Clements Church and back\, one in the morning session and one in the afternoon session. A volunteer from Aberdeen’s Family History Society and Fittie resident will be on hand to discover how to explore your family tree.  There will also be a map of ‘lost Fittie’\, where those with memories of the area\, can post notes of what existed between the Hall and St Clements where there were hundreds of residents and now there are just yards\, warehouses\, and business premises.  Plus\, there will of course be refreshments and plenty of chance to chat and share stories. \nSessions will run from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. \n  \n \nThis event is part of Community Land Week\, the festival of community ownership in Scotland. In 2023\, nearly 50 communities from across Scotland will celebrate\, with events ranging from guided walks across community-owned land and mushroom cultivation workshops\, to pumpkin festivals and ceilidhs. \nLearn more.

SUMMARY:Meet the Pioneers: Communities Building Wealth
DESCRIPTION:Community Wealth Building – a people-centred approach to local economic development – is a priority of Scottish Government\, which recently completed a consultation on a Community Wealth Building Bill to be introduced in this Parliament. \nThis approach\, which redirects wealth back into the local economy\, and places control and benefits into the hands of local people\, is one that is central to the work of many community landowners. In this Meet the Pioneers webinar\, we will hear from three communities who are generating community wealth by supporting local businesses and wider local economy initiatives. \n\nMoray Finch from Mull and Iona Community Trust will share how they are creating facilities for businesses and building up an evidence base about the impact of a lack of affordable housing\, on businesses\nHugh Ross and Angus Murray from Urras an Taobh Sear / Staffin Community Trust will share how the diverse projects of the trust\, including their housing project\, the eco-museum\, and the harbour\, have fed into the local economy\nFrom South Cowal Community Enterprises\, Linsay Chalmers will talk about how their community shop has increased its local supplier base and the other ways they are supporting the local economy\n\nFollowing presentations from the speakers\, participants will engage in a short Q&A session. \n\n  \n \nThis event is part of our Meet the Pioneer series which showcases the achievements of community landowners across Scotland and provides a platform for them to share their experiences and learning with others.
