SUMMARY:Pairc Trust Pairc Community Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Pairc Trust is excited to host a walk and talk in the small village of Calbost in partnership with Pairc Historical Society. The walk will be family friendly and at a leisurely pace\, with specific areas and points of interest e.g. the black house ruins\, identified and their historical significance discussed. The walk will start at the barn on the Calbost/Gravir road where there is ample parking and a possible shelter and talk if the weather is inclement. While the walk and talk will only take a couple of hours\, the distance walked is relatively small with a round journey distance of around 1.5 miles. \nAfter the walk\, the community will be invited to attend Ravenspoint Centre for a community BBQ. This is weather dependent and if unsuitable catering will be provided indoors. There will be an opportunity for discussions and for the Trust to engage with residents to plan the celebrations for our 10-year anniversary of community ownership of the Estate which takes place next year! \nWe will also have Hebridean Baker from Cromore joining Ravenspoint at 3pm on his book tour for the launch of his new cookbook\, ‘The Scottish Cookbook’. He will provide a talk which will include stories and songs from the island. Following on from this\, there will be a Q&A\, and he will also be signing books! \nAgenda: \n\n10:30am – 12:30pm – Walk and talk in Calbost with meeting point at the barn on the Calbost/Gravir road.\n1:30pm – Community BBQ at Ravenspoint Centre.\n3pm – Hebridean Baker Book Tour at Ravenspoint Centre including talk and Q&A.

Community Land Scotland and Scottish Rural Action are partnering to convene two one-day seminars for community landowners and aspiring community landowners to come together and discuss challenges\, opportunities and network. \nEach event is open to representatives from any village-based community that owns\, or aspires to own\, land or buildings in Scotland. We will also learn about their recent community consultation process towards developing a Local Place Plan for the village. Over lunch\, there will be opportunities speak with Trustees of TFVCC and other delegates from across Scotland. \nFollowing that\, delegates will hear from Community Land Scotland about some of the common threads and “top tips” that other villages have developed. The main part of the day will be centered on peer-to-peer learning\, with delegates participating in smaller discussion groups to discuss themes and topics that they will have selected prior to the day. DESCRIPTION:The main aims of the training session\, delivered by Sarah Whitman from Delfinity\, are to provide organisations with the tools to recruit and manage new individuals\, and to understand and plan for the legal and budgetary implications of hiring staff. \nThe training provides a roadmap for the journey that community organisations go through as they become employers\, from identifying staffing needs\, to understanding and planning for the recruitment process\, to understanding legal responsibilities and financial implications. Additionally\, the training will address how to successfully on-board new staff\, including induction and ongoing management. \nSome points that will be covered are: \n\nEvaluating staffing needs and building job to suit\nConsiderations on grant funded fixed term appointments\nRecruitment process\nLegal responsibilities as an employer (Equality law\, employment essentials\, contracts and conditions\, and employment rights)\nOverall cost of employment and how to budget\nInduction and ongoing management\n\nOnly 1 ticket available per organisation unless spaces become available.
