SUMMARY:2026 Simon Fraser Memorial Lecture
DESCRIPTION:The Next Five Years of Community Landownership\nAn evening of conversation and music dedicated to the memory of Simon Fraser\, a solicitor and pioneer of land reform in Scotland. \n  \nThe Simon Fraser Memorial Lecture returns in 2026\, continuing its bi-annual tradition of honouring the life and legacy of Simon Fraser\, the legal pioneer whose work helped make Scotland’s community buyouts possible. Taking place on 22 April at Inverness Town House\, this year’s lecture will be an evening of music and conversation\, beginning with a drinks reception and including musical performances throughout the evening. \nAt the heart of the event will be a chaired discussion led by Community Land Scotland Chair Megan MacInnes\, drawing on her own experience at Applecross Community Company to explore the big issues\, challenges and opportunities facing community landowners over the next five years. \nMaria de la Torre (Knocknagael) will share lessons from Knocknagael’s recent\, difficult but ultimately successful Asset Transfer of the Smiddy Field\, and challenge us to think about how asset transfer processes can work better for communities. Isla Kinnear (Fintry Development Trust) will discuss the opportunities and potential of community-owned energy projects. Michael Hunter (North Harris Trust and Carloway Estate Trust) will consider the future of large-scale estate management in community ownership\, particularly in the context of ecological regeneration and land management planning. \nTogether\, the evening will offer space for reflection\, connection and forward-looking discussion on the evolving role of community land ownership in Scotland\, grounded in the values that Simon Fraser championed. \n  \nThis event is made possible by sponsorship from Anderson MacArthur & Co Ltd and Harper Macleod.

SUMMARY:Regional Gathering - Skye
DESCRIPTION:Strong foundations\,lasting change\nCommunity ownership creates opportunities that reach far beyond land and buildings. It can help communities grow and shape a positive future for their place.\n\n	Date & Time:\n 8 October\n *\n2:00 pm\n –\n	9 October\n *\n3:30 pm \nCommunity-owned land and buildings and community-led projects build lasting local wealth. They create jobs\, support local businesses and keep income in the community. \nThis year\, our Regional Gatherings will explore how the strength we build in our own projects can lead to stronger\, more connected communities. \nOver the course of two days\, delegates will take part in two study visits\, a shared dinner and a workshop. We’ll explore what makes community ownership work well and what helps projects thrive in the long term. We’ll also look at what it takes to build a strong foundation for community ownership\, and how that strength can be translated into lasting benefits for the wider community. \nWe will also explore how we tell that story. How can community landowners share the story of their work and impact with their community\, partners and funders? And\, on a larger scale\, how do we tell the story of what community landowners are achieving in Scotland? \nExpect practical examples\, open conversations\, peer learning and plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. We welcome participants from communities at all stages of their community ownership journey. \nSchedule:\nThursday 8 October \n\n\n 14:00-17:00 Study visit: Broadford and Strath Community Company\n \n\n 18:00 – 20:00 Dinner\n \n\nFriday 9 October \n\n\n Study visit: Camuscross & Duisdale Initiative\n \n\n 11:30 – 15:30 Workshop\n \n\nImportant Information:\n\n\n What’s included\n \n\n\n \nRegistration includes accommodation and dinner on Thursday evening\, followed by breakfast\, lunch and refreshments throughout Friday. Accommodation and dinner will be in Kyleakin. \n\n\n\n Travel support\n \n\n\n \nWe have a very limited budget available for travel bursaries. If travel costs would otherwise prevent you from attending\, please indicate this as part of your registration. \nTo help us make the best use of the funds available and support attendance from across the network\, we kindly ask organisations and individuals who are able to meet their own travel costs to do so where possible. \n\n\n\n Delegate places\n \n\n\n \nThe event is open to individuals representing community organisations that own or are working towards owning land and buildings. \nWe are keen to maximise the number of organisations represented at the gathering and are therefore initially offering one delegate place per organisation. \nIf you would like additional colleagues to attend\, please note this on your registration form. Should spaces remain available after the initial allocation\, additional places will be offered on a first-come\, first-served basis. \n\nRegistration includes accommodation and dinner on Thursday evening\, followed by breakfast\, lunch and refreshments throughout Friday. Join the Natural Capital Community Partnerships team for an informal introduction to the project\, the opportunities it is exploring\, and how communities can get involved. \nThis event brings together the full team\, Louise\, Rachel\, Ross\, Lauryn and Stacey\, to share more about their work and its relevance to communities across Scotland. Together\, they’ll explore what natural capital means in practice\, how the project is supporting communities to engage with emerging opportunities\, and how members can help shape and participate in this work. \nWhether you’re already involved in natural capital discussions or completely new to the topic\, this is a chance to meet the team\, ask questions\, share perspectives and discover how the project could support your community’s ambitions. \n\n\n\nRegional Gathering – Aberdeenshire
