SUMMARY:Where We Stand - Glasgow
DESCRIPTION:18 June – 25 June 2025 \nWednesday – Saturday * 12:00 – 18:00 \nMonday – Wednesday * 12:00 – 18:00 \n  \nAn exhibition about Scotland’s community ownership journey over the last 100 years… and where we go next. \nThis exhibition originally toured across parts of Scotland in Summer 2024 in partnership with the Travelling Gallery and was seen by close to 2\,500 people. We are delighted to be able to take this back out 10 venues around Scotland in Spring / Summer 2025. \nThe exhibition acknowledges and celebrates the efforts\, ingenuity and passion of all those involved in community ownership over the last century. The exhibition shines light on the tremendous collective effort of people across Scotland working together to make a better future for themselves and the nation; empowering communities and the land they live on\, the land which they are custodians of. \nEach work is rooted in the experience and knowledge of people deeply involved in community ownership and then honed and shaped by artists embedded in those places. Each process of creation was about reciprocity\, sharing skills and collective vision. \nIt is important to contextualise these contemporary artworks within the larger land reform movement of Scotland\, so woven through the exhibition are the milestones and accomplishments of the last one hundred years\, and an invitation to look forward towards what the next one hundred years might hold. \nEverything traces back to people and place; the stories of how people live\, how they create a sense of belonging and how we live in harmony with the rest of the natural world. These artworks are about tracing the roots of this social movement to see what has flourished already\, and to wonder what blossoms are still to come. \n \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:2026 Simon Fraser Memorial Lecture
DESCRIPTION:The Next Five Years of Community Landownership\nAn evening of conversation and music dedicated to the memory of Simon Fraser\, a solicitor and pioneer of land reform in Scotland. \n  \nThe Simon Fraser Memorial Lecture returns in 2026\, continuing its bi-annual tradition of honouring the life and legacy of Simon Fraser\, the legal pioneer whose work helped make Scotland’s community buyouts possible. Taking place on 22 April at Inverness Town House\, this year’s lecture will be an evening of music and conversation\, beginning with a drinks reception and including musical performances throughout the evening. \nAt the heart of the event will be a chaired discussion led by Community Land Scotland Chair Megan MacInnes\, drawing on her own experience at Applecross Community Company to explore the big issues\, challenges and opportunities facing community landowners over the next five years. \nMaria de la Torre (Knocknagael) will share lessons from Knocknagael’s recent\, difficult but ultimately successful Asset Transfer of the Smiddy Field\, and challenge us to think about how asset transfer processes can work better for communities. Isla Kinnear (Fintry Development Trust) will discuss the opportunities and potential of community-owned energy projects. Michael Hunter (North Harris Trust and Carloway Estate Trust) will consider the future of large-scale estate management in community ownership\, particularly in the context of ecological regeneration and land management planning. \nTogether\, the evening will offer space for reflection\, connection and forward-looking discussion on the evolving role of community land ownership in Scotland\, grounded in the values that Simon Fraser championed. \n  \nThis event is made possible by sponsorship from Anderson MacArthur & Co Ltd and Harper Macleod.
