DESCRIPTION:Simon Fraser Memorial event\nOpening of the new Memorial to the Crofters of Staffin\nThe Simon Fraser Memorial Series is part of the Linn an Fhearainn / 100 Years of Community Ownership project.\nThe series focuses on the stories of community owners\, the change they created\, and how their legacy might shape the future. It pays tribute to Simon Fraser\, a solicitor and pioneer of land reform in Scotland\, who was instrumental in early community buyouts\, including Eigg\, Knoydart and Gigha\, as well as the Assynt Crofters’ buyout. \nThis is the final Simon Fraser event in the series\, hosted by Urras an Taobh Sear / Staffin Community Trust to celebrate the opening of their new memorial. \nThe series launched in January 2024 with the Simon Fraser Memorial Lecture at Dynamic Earth\, Edinburgh\, and has included events in Gigha\, Glasgow\, Galson\, Eigg and London. \nLatha Mòr air An Taobh Sear\nThis Simon Fraser memorial event is a Community Day in Staffin\, North Skye\, to celebrate the opening of our Crofters’ Memorial at Creag an Fhèilidh. \nCrofters from Bhaltos were the first in Skye to rebel against extortionate rent rises imposed by their landlord. On the night of the event\, we will showcase a film about the Centre\, created by local filmmaker Hollie Walker. Hollie\, who was a member of our Camera Club\, has recently completed her HND and will be pursuing her degree. \nThe evening will bring together friends of A’ the Airts\, both old and new\, for a joyful celebration of the Centre. Additionally\, another young person\, Payton I’Anson\, will present a PowerPoint showcasing the events of the last 15 years. A light buffet will also be served to commemorate this special occasion.

DESCRIPTION:Upper Eskdale Development Group invite you to celebrate the community ownership of The Old School Hub and Café\, Eskdalemuir\, with support from the Community Land Scotland Festival fund. \nBring along memorabilia of the school or the local community — photos\, keepsakes\, or other items — to share\, display\, and inspire conversation. This is a chance to celebrate the school’s history\, reflect on the achievements of the community in retaining it as a local asset\, and look forward to its role for future generations. \nThe evening will include: \n\nCurry supper\nQuiz and community activities\nKaraoke\nDisplay of the school’s history\n\nTickets are £8 (free for under 16s). A bar will be open throughout the evening\, and a raffle will be held\, with proceeds supporting the Water for Hope project. You’re welcome to drop in and/or bring along raffle prizes to support the cause. \nWe’d encourage you to book in advance (hub@eskdalemuir.com or at the Hub) so we can plan food — limited tickets will also be available on the door. \nMore information on the raffle project: Water for Hope
