I’ve been involved in leading and assisting with community buy outs and asset transfer since the mid-1990s. This has mostly been in former coalfields and urban areas ranging from Bannockburn to Dunblane and Lochgelly to Leith. I was the first to take the then Scottish Executive to court on behalf of a local community over the Community Right to Buy in 2006. Currently, I’m the Project Director of Bannockburn House , a thirty acre historic estate with 17th century Jacobean mansion house, gardens and woodlands.
It is important that community buyouts have a joint voice to lobby for legislative change and support so that Scotland can maximise community land ownership.
