Ian Ross

I am a forester by profession and for over 30 years lectured at the Scottish School of Forestry – initially full-time and then as a part-time visiting lecturer. My teaching inputs included Forest and Social Policy. I have held a number of other roles and offices including – Highland Councillor and also chairman of SNH. I have been involved in community forestry for a number of years and was a director and chair of the North Highland Forest Trust; chaired the Forestry Commission’s Forestry for People Advisory Panel; and participated in the last three plus years of the National Forest Land Scheme Assessment Panel. I was also a founding director of the Community Energy Company.

I strongly believe in a sustainable approach to land use and management, with a long term commitment to public interest and good. This is best delivered through a mixed suite of land use ownership in Scotland and one where community influence and control should most certainly extend to ownership.
