Aigas Community Forest was established in March 2009 in response to Forestry Commission Scotland declaring the 270 hectare Aigas Forest in Strathglass near Beauly as surplus land. ACF applied successfully through the National Forest Land Scheme to purchase the Forest but with changes in the funding regime at the Scottish Land Fund and BIG Lottery have not been able to secure purchase funding.
As of Spring 2013 Aigas Community Forest are investigating the potential to lease the Forest from FCS for a minimum of 25 years and a maximum of 175 years. This would give the Community control over an important local asset which is our main aim, but it is recognised that purchase would be our preferred option and we encourage HIE, BIG Lottery, The Scottish Government and Community Land Scotland to explore changes to the Scottish Land Fund that would help make this a reality for the Community.
